Wear a mask (or even a costume) to the Virtual Friday Blitz

Oct. 25-31 is National Celebrate Pro Bono Week!  We are doing our part to celebrate the amazing work lawyers and law students do to help the most vulnerable by holding a VIRTUAL FRIDAY BLITZ.  What is this? It is a team effort to respond to legal questions posted by the public on the SC. FreeLegalAwswers.org website.  Each team will consist of a lawyer and a law student who will utilize the chat feature to discuss solutions, draft and send responses.Our goal is to reduce the backlog of questions and to provide simple responses and possible links to other resources.

2L and 3L’s Don’t graduate without participating in one of these events.  A great networking opportunity!

UPDATE:  We have 15 lawyers signed up, lawyers from all over the state. Plenty of room for law students!  You don’t want to miss this networking opportunity. So few chances to meet and work one-on-one with an attorney but the Friday Blitz is amazing!

 

News you can use!

If you are interested in what legal services are being provided to low income SC then you should sign up to receive the SC Appleseed Legal Justice Center Newsletter. This once a month e-publication is full of news about events, policies, solutions and facts.  There is a lot of noise out there but this is a source that you can trust.  You never know what piece of information might just spark an interest or become a subject of a paper!

Power Lunch Hour

Every Thursday from 1-2 you can drop in and hear not only the latest from the Pro Bono Program but a short interview from an alumnae who is a leader in their field and how they incorporate pro bono service into their practice.  Plenty of time to exchange ideas and ask questions. And you can eat your lunch while catching up!

With the new school year quickly approaching, I feel that we as a community can give back in a big way. The Facebook group, entitled Richland County – Adopt A Teacher, seeks to provide support to local teachers and school staff through community involvement. The goal of the group is to provide a space for educators to share their needs, wishlists, and even prayer requests with their local community members. The other members, whether it be parents, fellow  staff members, or citizens just looking to help, would be able to fulfill these needs within their means. My hope is that Richland County can band together and support those teachers, whether it be joining them in prayer or sending them supplies from their wishlists.
